Transform Your Office Space with the Help of a Commercial Contractor

When it comes to the interior decoration of offices, the trend is to make them as open and active as possible. Sure, you can go in for the traditional office filled with cubicles. However, as firms become more informal and less hierarchical, people find that having an open office space with a lot of light and less divisions between people makes for better communication and helps in coming up with fresh ideas.
Let There Be Light!
The most important thing, when trying to create a pleasant work environment, is to let in as much light as possible. These days, people hardly get out during the day, except to go to lunch, and many of them even skip that. Technically speaking, this isn’t the healthiest way for human beings to live. We’re meant to be out and about, like our hunting-gathering forefathers. But since this isn’t possible, the next best thing is to create a feeling of the outdoors when you’re indoors.
So floor to ceiling windows are great, if the construction of your office building allows for them. If you have a skylight, it’s great to use that as well. Arranging your office furniture so that everyone gets some light is also a good idea.
Additionally, you might want to have some well-cared for plants distributed around your office space. This will also give people the impression that they’re outdoors and lift their spirits a little.
Comfortable office furniture is a must. Ergonomic chairs are expensive but will eventually be worth it when you see the quality of work your employees do when they are not suffering from backache.
Cubicles and Artwork
If you must have cubicles, it might be a good idea to make at least one or two of the walls out of glass, just to remind employees that they aren’t alone and that others are around to communicate with, if need be. Glass also gives a greater feeling of openness to the space.
Judiciously arranged artwork in bright colors can also lift the mood. Of course, it might be possible to appreciate Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” from a purely aesthetic perspective but, if you’re trying to create a good energy around your office, you might want to go with something more upbeat like Monet’s “Water Lilies.”
