The winter months might be upon us, but that didn’t stop our Riverbend clients from getting their backyard ready to enjoy the other three seasons of the year. As our founder, Sam McCamy, once said, “It’s all about the backyard!” With East Tennessee’s temperate climate and beautiful surroundings, an outdoor space is not the area to skimp on in your Knoxville home.
Long-Awaited Plans
When these clients bought their 1980s home five years ago, they dreamed of an outdoor extension that would be dog-friendly and allow them to enjoy their backyard to the fullest. After an interior renovation and a global shutdown due to Covid, they finally decided to revisit the outdoor upgrade.
A good friend of the clients confidently referred McCamy and sent the homeowner our way. “He understood our vision and was confident in Grant’s ability to execute,” the client explained. They connected with McCamy’s president, Grant McMahan, upon meeting and turned over the plans for their long-awaited project to begin.
A Perfect Match
The clients reflected that the best part of working with our team was the trust that was established from the beginning. Their experience working with other contractors wasn’t ideal, so they were hesitant to let go of the reins going into their outdoor project. “We assumed that we’d need to micro-manage the process with McCamy as a result of our past experience. We couldn’t have been more wrong. They always seemed to be 2-steps ahead of us whenever we noticed things that didn’t seem quite right.
When building an add-on to an existing home, cohesion is always the most important factor. Seamlessly blending roofing and brick, choosing stone that compliments existing elements, and matching the style of the home are all things to consider in a project like this. Now, you would never know that the covered porch and detached garage were added over 25 years after the original home was built!
McCamy interior designer, Ashley Jones, is a huge part of ensuring cohesive design between the old and new. “Ashley somehow jumped into our brains and knew exactly what we wanted before we even knew what we were looking for,” the homeowner joked.
Backyard Living
Overall, these clients say they are completely happy with the quality finished product that McCamy brought to fruition in their backyard. They’re soaking up every bit of nice weather until winter comes. Luckily, our team ensured they pre-wire for radiant heaters, so they’ll be ready when cool weather strikes.
“We’ll live out there until the fire isn’t enough and, thanks to Ashley and Grant’s suggestion (insistence), we’re pre-wired for radiant heaters. We’ll only be inside to sleep come spring/summer.”
