McCamy Construction Adds More Taste to Market Square with The Oliver Royale
Tuesday, November 24th, 2015
On July 7, 2015, we began renovating what was previously home to Shonos in the City, a Japanese grill and sushi bar. After the restaurant closed, plans were in the works for The Oliver Royale. Ethan Orley, owner of the up-and-coming restaurant and The Oliver Hotel approached us about the restaurant build out. While most of the demolition was complete, there was a lot that needed to be wrapped up. We were excited to accept the job, remove the debris, and build it back! (Read our start up blog post here.)
One of the highlights of the building process was the original hardwood floors that we were able to preserve, discovered under multiple layers of flooring. The bar is probably my favorite part of the restaurant. It’s a horseshoe oyster marble bar, built with old reclaimed lumber, and it surrounds a custom iron structure which holds liquor bottles, all lit by LED accent lights. It is an absolutely beautiful focal point.
Ethan and Phillip had a great vision for this restaurant and worked with hOmE Studios to develop the concept. McCamy Construction was contracted to execute. With such a tight timeline, the biggest challenge we faced was staying on schedule. As construction drawings were being completed, we planned with the owners and designers every step of the way. Focus, planning, and great teamwork was essential to opening the restaurant by the deadline and with weekly meetings and open communication, we were able to move throughout the project with minimal delays.
The Oliver Royale was a fun project to be a part of and we worked closely with a lot of great people along the way: Elizabeth Eason Architecture, hOmE Studios in New York, BNA Associates, as well as our own phenomenal local subcontractors. There is truly nothing like this restaurant in Knoxville and it was a blast to bring this vision alive.
It is rewarding to bring many of the old buildings in the Knoxville community and downtown areas back to life. Our experienced, energetic team is always eager to tackle any task and we are thankful to have such dedicated members. We take pride in our work and customer service is paramount. Using online software, we provide our clients with daily updates, photos, and budgets throughout the construction project. Clear and consistent communication helps us get the job done on time and in the manner it was envisioned.
