Extra Touches On A Master Bath Remodel Delight Sequoyah Couple
Thursday, November 29th, 2018
When a couple with two young children moved into a Sequoyah Hills home in late 2010, they knew they would eventually want to renovate the master bathroom. The style of the bathroom was dated, and the layout wasn’t ideal. Plus, the couple never used the very large bathtub that dominated the space.
“We never cared for the tile accent colors,” the homeowner said, adding, “We wanted a more modern, minimalist style that suited the rest of the house. We also wanted to make the layout more functional. The bathroom is big, but because the layout was odd we were maybe using 70% of the space.”
While the couple knew they’d eventually renovate their bathroom, it wasn’t a crucial matter and they were also busy starting a family with two children, now age 7 and 2. However, some tiles around the bathtub had broken and a recent water leak behind one of the walls created a hole in the wall.
“We figured we could either replace the tiles and repair the leak and the wall for now, or do the whole renovation,” the homeowner said. “It was either go small or go big, and we decided to go big.”
The couple got estimates from four contractors, but they were partial to McCamy from the start based on other renovations they’d seen McCamy doing in Sequoyah. Specifically, a neighbor two doors down had hired McCamy for a project and raved about their work.
But it was one of McCamy’s package features that sealed the deal. “McCamy was the only contractor that provided a design professional as part of their package, and that was really important to us,” the homeowner said.
“We had a vision of what we wanted, but we don’t have expertise in bathroom design. We could have figured it out, but we also didn’t trust ourselves to know the right choice for so many details, like matching colors or which fixture would be best.”
Ashley Jones, McCamy’s Director of Design, worked with the couple on every aspect of the bathroom design. “That was so valuable to us, and made the whole process so much easier,” the homeowner said.
“Ashley was able to steer us to choices we liked but that were also within our budget,” the homeowner said. “We wanted a modern, clean look that would also be timeless so that 15 years down the road we could say it still looks like a nice bathroom. Having a designer helped us make that vision a reality.”
A Larger Closet In The Process
As the homeowners worked with McCamy to redesign the layout of the bathroom to better suit their needs, they decided to shift some space from the bathroom to the adjoining master bedroom closet.
“Our closet shares a wall with the bath, so we borrowed some of that unused space from the bathroom and shifted the wall to make the closet 18 inches wider,” the homeowner said. “That extra space makes a substantial difference.”
Both the bathroom and the closet renovations turned out to be exactly what the couple wanted, with some favorite elements. The husband says, “I especially love the esthetics of the barn doors on the closet and the bathroom entry.”
His wife agrees, adding, “My other favorite aspect is the new, gigantic shower with two shower heads and a wonderful bench. And this may be kind of a silly thing, but I also love the
placement of toilet paper roll holder. It’s just perfectly tucked in the middle of a built-in-shelf and I think that’s so clever.”
It’s the extra touches—ranging from a perfectly placed toilet paper holder to having a design professional on their side—that make the homeowners confident they made the right choice with McCamy Construction.
