Custom Function and Style: A New West Knox Build

Our featured homeowners for this month knew exactly what they wanted when they set out to find a new home. Instead of renovating like they had in the past or settling for a home that didn’t have everything they were looking for, they decided that custom building with McCamy was the perfect avenue for them.
“We had a pretty specific idea of what we wanted in terms of the look of the house and the floor plan,” the homeowners said. A walk-out basement, bedrooms on the main level, and a clean, modern look were on their wishlist. They also wanted to include a home office and an exercise room, which have turned out to be more useful than they ever envisioned!
The biggest luxury of custom building is getting to create a home that is perfectly functional for you and embodies your personal style. “She helped us know what was in budget and how to achieve the look we were going for,” the homeowners said, “and she was also great at steering us away from anything that did not fit our overall look.”
There is so much to love about their new home, and they have gotten to enjoy it in different ways than they had planned. A basement with a built in bar area will someday be the perfect entertaining space, but for now, the kids and puppies are thoroughly enjoying it! “It’s not what we envisioned, but we utilize the space daily.”
Another functional feature that these homeowners love is the access to their laundry room through a door in their master closet, as well as a separate mudroom space. “We love having a mudroom. It keeps the rest of the house so much cleaner.” Plenty of walk-in storage throughout is another aspect that allows the rest of the home to be fully enjoyed.
The homeowners love the back to back fireplaces in their living room and porch areas. The design of the vaulted and paneled ceilings is mirrored on the inside and outside. The outside fireplace is wood-burning, while the inside is gas. “We’ve never had a gas fireplace, and we didn’t realize how much we were going to like that. We use it all the time,” reflected the homeowner.
Although they did not picture themselves moving in and getting settled in their brand new home in the midst of a pandemic, it has been the perfect place for them to enjoy lots of unexpected time spent together. “At one point we were deciding whether or not to shave some square footage, but we are glad we decided to keep it because it’s been very useful.” They are particularly glad that the home office and exercise room made the cut!
Lastly, the homeowners reflected on their experience working with McCamy’s president, Grant McMahan. “The customer service that Grant gives is pretty exceptional. We’ve done a lot of renovating projects in the past, and we really appreciate Grant’s commitment to making the customer happy. He is always easy to get in touch with and still, almost a year later, will answer on the first ring if I call him. He wants to make sure we are happy, and we really appreciate that.”
