Considering Architectural Style – Your Personality and Practicality When Building a Custom Home in Knoxville
Friday, November 1st, 2013
So you’ve looked at a number of homes but haven’t found “the one” i.e., the home of your dreams. With McCamy Construction you have the option of building a custom home in Knoxville, a city located between the Great Smoky Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau, with the Tennessee river cutting through it. Here are a few things to keep in mind when coming up with the plan for your dream home:
1. Architectural Style: There are a number of different architectural styles to choose from when you’re building a home e.g., Colonial, Greek Revival, Georgian, and many others. Whether you want your home to look more ornate or simple, there is a style out there for you. And you don’t need to limit yourself to one style either. If you want a Colonial style symmetrical home with Greek columns, you might as well go for it! Of course, mixing and matching too many styles may be risky, but a little bit of experimentation is not a bad idea.
2. Your Personality: What do you usually spend the most time doing? If you work from home you’ll probably want an office space in your custom home. And since you spend a lot of time in the office, you’d probably also like this to be one of your rooms with a view. If, on the other hand, you’re an artist, you might want to set up a studio in your custom home. Those who love clothes might want walk-in closets while those who spend a lot of time cooking will want a large, well-equipped kitchen.
3. Practicality: When coming up with a custom home plan we can make sure it conforms to your habits. For example, many people like to have a direct entrance from the garage to the kitchen so that they can carry groceries in easily. A laundry room with space for the washer, dryer, ironing board and linen cabinets will make day to day chores easier. Several clients with limited mobility have found use in having an elevator so they don’t have to take the stairs.
