3 ways to calm neighbors during your construction project
Wednesday, November 12th, 2014
Concerned about how to keep the peace in your neighborhood while construction is going on?
This is a issue that many people wonder about. No one wants to upset their neighbors while their home is being built or renovated.
What can you do to foster neighborhood peace during your construction project?
One thing we do as a company is to try to make personal contact with each close neighbor before construction begins. This allows the neighbors to ask questions and voice any concerns that may have before we even begin.
Leaving our business card with each family gives them the security of having a number to call if anything unusual arises.
Another thing we plan to begin doing soon is to place hang tags on the neighbors’ doors in order to catch the folks who may not be home when we call. We always want neighbors to feel good about our work in their neighborhood.
On a recent
Guild Quality blog post, we found some excellent advice from other construction pros around the country:
Martha Fisher of Croixco Construction suggests visiting your neighbors with a meal or a letter to ease the inconvenience of construction while the work on your home is being finished.
Michelle Slowe of Newpro recommends communicating with your neighbors in addition to reminding those on the construction site to be on their best behavior. She says, “Remind those working on your home to be as tidy and quiet as possible. Do not accept disruptive behavior.”
Professional
Eric Consuegra of Arocon Roofing and Construction gives this advice: “Keep the job site as clean as possible at all times. No one likes construction debris creating an eye sore in the neighborhood, especially when the debris enters someone else’s yard who is not having any construction work done.”
