From Dated to Dreamy

When McCamy Construction was approached by a family living in Knoxville’s charming Forest Brook neighborhood, the goal was to breathe new life into their 1950s craftsman-style home while preserving its timeless appeal. Like many neighborhoods in the Rocky Hill area, Forest Brook is a neighborhood where architectural character is cherished, and this client’s home was no exception.
This project began from a desire to update the home’s dated bathrooms—but as many renovations do, the project evolved into something more. What began as a need to replace the aging plumbing system quickly expanded into a full-scale refresh of several key areas in the home.
Bathroom Refresh
The home’s bathrooms were showing their age, with outdated tub-shower stalls and aging tile that no longer suited the family’s style. With the help of McCamy Construction’s design team, the client decided to keep the original layouts but give the bathrooms a full facelift. Updated plumbing systems, new tile work, and more modern fixtures were installed, replacing the old with a fresh, functional, and aesthetically pleasing design.
“We wanted to get rid of the old tub-shower combos and bring in more current, functional features. The goal was to create bathrooms that were both beautiful and practical,” the client said. “We couldn’t be happier with the results.”

Classic Craftsmanship
One of the standout features of this renovation was the client’s love for wallpaper. In keeping with the home’s quaint style, the client wasn’t afraid of adding charm with textured wall coverings and subtle patterns in the bathrooms and hallways. Grasscloth wallpapers added a unique, personalized touch while maintaining the warmth and coziness that the home is known for. The chosen color palettes were soft and warm, complementing the existing design elements found throughout the rest of the home.

Working closely with McCamy’s in-house designer, the client was able to achieve a style that was both traditional and updated—respecting the original charm of the house while giving it a modern twist.
“The process with McCamy was seamless,” the client shared. “From start to finish, they communicated with us every step of the way. Their designer helped us select products that matched our vision, and the results exceeded our expectations.”
Expanding the Project

What started as a bathroom renovation evolved into a larger project as the client decided to extend the updates to other areas of the home. McCamy installed new lighting fixtures throughout the house, replacing older, outdated pieces with elegant, modern designs that added both character and function.
In the primary bedroom, McCamy created a custom wall of built-in drawers and cabinets, solving a storage issue without compromising the room’s cozy feel. Additionally, the basement family room was given a complete refresh with new paint and carpet, transforming it into a comfortable and inviting space for family gatherings.
A custom built-in office solution was also added, providing the client with a functional and stylish workspace that fits the home’s cottage aesthetic.

Creating Modern Charm
McCamy Construction is known for its ability to blend modern updates with the timeless charm of a home’s original charm. This Forest Brook renovation is a perfect example of that commitment, where our team was able to address the home’s functional needs—such as updating the plumbing—while preserving and enhancing its character.
“We are thrilled with the results,” the client said. “Not only do the bathrooms look beautiful, but knowing that the plumbing is updated gives us peace of mind. The whole home feels more comfortable and functional now.”
At McCamy, we understand that renovations aren’t just about updating a home—they’re about preserving character while creating spaces that can be enjoyed for years to come. This project, like so many others, prioritizes functionality and style, giving our clients spaces that feel like luxury in their everyday lives.
