A Handful of Small Renovations Make A Dramatic Difference In Sequoyah Home
Tuesday, September 18th, 2018
When a young couple moved into their 1954 home in Sequoyah Hills two years ago, they knew they would want to make some cosmetic updates. In particular, a small guest bathroom that was original to the home was pretty outdated with it’s pink tub, blue tile, and wallpaper on the ceiling. In addition, the homeowners wanted to update the living space in the den, where they spend most of their time with their two-year-old son.

The homeowners solicited quotes from a few different home renovation companies. “Because we had so many little things we wanted done but we didn’t have just one big renovation, some companies seemed less than enthusiastic and said they’d fit us in when they could. But McCamy really valued us as a customer and treated us like we’d be a priority, which is the entire reason we picked them.”
As it turned out, the homeowners found that specific aspects—such as the planning and design process and a communication app—turned out to be pleasantly surprising bonuses unique to working with McCamy.
The renovation projects included:
- Guest bath remodel with a complete demolition down to the studs.
- Custom bench seat and built-ins at fireplace for entertainment center.
- Refaced fireplace surround and hearth.
- 3 sets of new french doors installed.
- Sheetrock and paint.
The homeowners had a sense of what they wanted, such as a more open look in the bathroom with a shower instead of a bathtub. But they were open to suggestions and soon discovered that one of the biggest advantages to choosing McCamy was working with the Director of Design, Ashley Jones.
“My favorite part of working with McCamy was Ashley, she was amazing,” the homeowner said. “She would ask what we envisioned and take that into account, and then she would also guide us on what she thought would look best, too.”
For example, the homeowners thought they wanted the top of the newly built-in bench seat around the fireplace to be white. Ashley suggested staining the wooden top to match the flooring in order to create an integrated look. “She was right,” the homeowner said, adding, “It looks so much better than white would have.”
The homeowners also appreciated the way the whole McCamy team planned for the renovations. “At the beginning of the process Grant brought all the people who would be involved out at one time,” the homeowner explained. “He had the demolition guys, carpenters, tile installers, and Ashley all take a look together in order to decide the best plan for what to tackle when and in what order. We were impressed by that.”
The homeowners were also impressed by the level of communication they received throughout the renovation process, including updates through a digital app that McCamy uses. The app keeps homeowners up-to-date about a project’s progress, including scheduling updates or change orders.
“The app turned out to be a very pleasant surprise,” the homeowner said, adding, “We were out of the country during part of the renovation process but we were able to communicate through the app. It was so convenient to see real-time updates when we weren’t even here.”
Now that the renovations are complete, the homeowners are loving how their home looks and feels updated and more cohesive. “The den looks completely different than it did before. We have a two-year-old, so there was always stuff scattered everywhere. Now we can quickly store his toys in the bench seat, which he refers to as his toy box. And we were able to get rid of the bulky entertainment center now that our TV and other devices are in the built-in shelves. The whole space looks so much neater.”
As for that pink-tub-blue-tile bathroom, the homeowner said, “It’s a small bath but the change is dramatic. It was pretty dated before, but now everyone who comes over is floored by how different it looks. It’s awesome.”
“Our renovation may have been a lot of little projects,” the homeowner summarized. “But together they make the whole house look and feel so much better.”
