The Secret Behind a Great Team Isn’t Found in the Office

A few weekends ago, our McCamy Construction team took a rafting trip down the Ocoee River for a nice day of teambuilding and fun. As our business has grown so has our team and we took this opportunity to learn more about each other, build our communication and trust, and of course have fun!
Will, one of our residential superintendents used to be a guide on the river so he ran the show once we were on the water! One of the things we learned pretty quickly is that when rafting down rapids, communication is essential. Each side of the boat needs to communicate who needs to paddle and who doesn’t, and timing can be critical! Without this communication, the boat would just be going in circles or drifting aimlessly down the river. As we mentioned before communication is the key for us to maintain finishing our projects on time and on budget. Rafting was a great example of just how important it is!
A team is a group of people that bring different assets to reach a common goal. Similar to the picture to the left, different team members had different pieces of equipment needed for an unforgettable experience. One of those experiences was that as we headed through some of the rapids, Timm, our commercial superintendent had a pretty wild ride at the back of the boat and unexpectedly ended up swimming some of the river!
Thankfully, we’re all on the same page and we got him back in the boat and headed on our way.White water rafting is an endeavour that requires solid teamwork, great communication, and trust. By the time we headed off the river we’d made some great memories and were better for it.
