Meet Grant, Vice President of Construction at McCamy Construction
Friday, August 8th, 2014
Why did you decide to work for a construction company?
My wife and I are addicted to DIY projects. In 2004, we started flipping/renovating houses. We bought old forgotten homes and lived in them while we renovated. After having children, this process became much more difficult. When I knew
McCamy Construction was looking to grow the renovation business, I was intrigued. It was the perfect opportunity to combine my talents and interests into something I really love to do every day.
I was impressed with the quality of
McCamy’s work. We are a young, passionate group, willing to work hard and learn everyday. It’s a perfect fit for me.
What’s one thing you think everyone working in your position should know?
Everyday presents new challenges. Good leaders must be willing to learn and adapt. Organization and communication are keys to success.
The growth we have experienced over the past year has been amazing! I’m excited to work with such an ambitious and talented team. We are in the process of hiring new positions which will expand our in-house capabilities and support our priorities – customer satisfaction and building quality. With an acute focus on design, I feel we are positioning ourselves to further help customers in designing their new homes, renovations or commercial spaces.
What’s an example of that?
The growth of our business has lead to the need to hire 2 new supervisors to oversee upcoming fall projects.
What was the last book you read (or recommended?)
The last book I’ve read? Well, with two young children, I’ve seen the movie Frozen about 75 times this year! Does that count?
What was your first job?
For my very first job as a teenager, I mowed tee boxes and greens for local golf course. My first REAL job was as a Graphic Designer for Ad Agency downtown Knoxville.
Who or what inspires you?
Considering Art/Design/Architecture styles is very inspiring to me.
Why do you feel that way?
I’m a very visual and detail oriented person. I’m constantly looking at design ideas and projects and finding ways to do things better. Paying close attention to design and architectural details in houses are key in separating
McCamy from other builders.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my wife and two daughters. We love to work on our own home and I play golf every chance I get. And I love all things UT athletics!
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
I have a talent for fine art sketching and I played collegiate golf for Savannah College of Art and Design.
What do you wish other people knew about McCamy Construction?
I would like the public to know how much our team cares about the work we create. We have a great collection of talent ready to do big things.
What’s the best thing to happen since you started working with McCamy Construction?
I’ve witnessed
McCamy win 2 big awards in the past year. I’m excited that the vision and hard work is starting to show publicly.
