We specialize in Value Engineering; Your Dream, Under Budget
Tuesday, July 30th, 2013
Do you want to save money? Of course! Everybody wants to save money; there is no question about that. When it comes to renovating your home or your business that you live and work in everyday, you want it to be picture perfect and meet your budget.
One of our specialties is Value Engineering. This means we find the best combination of price and quality of products used to fit your budget and timeline. For example, say a customer had a $100,000 renovations budget for their business office. In our initial meeting, they shared some very specific features and products they wanted in their new space. One of those requests was Deep Tinted Asian tile that runs $35 a square foot. Unfortunately, this bumps the project estimate to $115,000. Knowing it’s an important request, we would research and work with our suppliers to locate and suggest a similar product for a lower price-point. This helps with the budget and is a win-win for everyone. In some cases our product suggestions have brought other features to the table that didn’t exist in the original request.
Another way we’ve applied Value Engineering on a project is to listen to the customers goal for the renovation and offer options on timeline or scope to make the project a reality. While working with Salon Visage, we did almost all the work at night so that the business could continue to operate during regular daytime hours. The project had a longer timeline, but it also allowed for a larger budget and more complete renovation since the business was open for business during the day. In other cases, after listening to the customer’s goals for the space, we may recommend leaving walls in place or other structural support that can significantly reduce the project cost and still accomplish the goals.
Every project is unique, but our goal is always the same, we want to make sure your dream becomes a reality.
Here are the Seven-steps to our Value Engineering system.
1. What is being done now?
Does it serve a specific purpose or is it more for aesthetics? This is a must in determining what should be done.
2. How will the alternatives be measured?
Is there another product that can serve the same purpose?
3. What must be done?
What are the cost differences between the newly suggested products and the originally desired products?
4. What else will do the job?Are there any other products that we are forgetting about?
5. Which ideas are the best?
What makes the most sense for you?
6. Develop and expand ideas
Can anything be used in a different way?
7. Present ideas
Review all the alternatives to find the best match.
