Timeless New Additions

In Knoxville, it’s difficult to give up a home that almost has it all. In this case, our clients had a location they loved and a charming cottage that stole their hearts, but the square footage was simply not functional for a family of five. Instead of throwing their hat into the competitive buyers’ market, they decided to call McCamy Construction to make their current residence their own.
Room to Breathe
The main priority for their project was to create more space. Our clients’ idea of adding onto the home prompted them to reach out to an architect to see what was possible. With plans in tow, they decided McCamy would be the perfect team to bring their vision to life.
This home addition would include a dining room, primary suite, powder room, sunroom and outdoor living area, giving them almost 2000 square feet of additional living space. This almost doubled the size of their home, adding significant value and giving the whole family a little bit of breathing room!
Front Facing
The addition spans the back and northwest side of the home, expanding the front elevation to the right and giving their front door center stage. With a less lopsided footprint, we were able to make the front porch symmetrical and add a vaulted portico over the front door. We extended the porch to the left, refinished the front door and added a pendant over the entry. A new exterior paint color on the existing cedar shake siding gives this home a whole new look and a major surge in curb appeal.
Backside Improvements
Sitting on a sloped lot, the two-story rear elevation saw many changes as well. The existing back deck was replaced by the sunroom in the addition, and a new deck with metal railing gives the new outdoor living space a more modern look. The new primary bedroom and basement below look out onto their backyard through large windows that were selected to match the existing ones throughout the house.
The photos below show the evolution from back deck to extra living space. A sloped ceiling gives some extra height to this light and airy space, and a painted paneled ceiling makes it feel like vacation!
Classic Character
Transitional design choices in their new primary bathroom complete this home addition in the most beautiful way! Clean, simple choices throughout this home make for an addition that feels timeless and brand new at the same time.
