1950’s Cherokee Rancher Renovation: Beauty in Progress
Tuesday, June 30th, 2015
Back in October 2014, we began the demolition on one of our biggest home renovations: a Cherokee rancher from the 1950’s. The homeowners felt it was important to preserve the home’s unique structure that gave it character, yet they wanted a more modern feel. McCamy rose to the challenge. After we finish, this home will have a brand new look, improving the living space and general flow of the home, but will still have all of the remarkable features the homeowners fell in love with when they bought it.
First, we completely gutted the inside of the house and laid new electrical and plumbing lines, followed by mechanical restructuring. Energy efficiency is extremely important to this homeowner, so we used spray foam insulation before putting up the drywall. We followed this by installing a home sprinkler system. Next came millwork, new windows and doors.
We began reconstruction by building the new master suite, complete with an impressive vaulted ceiling and a luxurious bath with custom tile and a walk-in closet.
Remember that fabulous kitchen design we mentioned in our last update? We are now installing all cabinetry and countertops. The results will be breathtaking.
The rancher’s exterior is coming along nicely. The patio concrete is stamped and finished and the driveway, featuring a beautiful and functional porte cochère, will soon be formed and poured.
The river room is just starting to take shape with a built-in fireplace, custom trim work on each side, and full glass doors/transoms.
We put in beautiful, five-inch plank hardwood throughout the house for the finishing touch.
Home renovations are one of the most rewarding projects in the construction industry. I love seeing the character of old homes revealed, especially in this 1950’s classic. This house lay untouched for years, almost as if waiting to be awoken from a deep sleep. When discussing reconstruction, the homeowners felt it was important to stay true to the character of the home and we agreed. We left the shell and we kept the original style of the home in mind when incorporating the updates. The custom trim work is outstanding, every detail done with care. Entertaining in this home will go unmatched: The kitchen opens up into the river room, which has a fireplace with custom trim work, all under an 11’ coffer ceiling. This overlooks the patio, covered with a custom trellis that looks out over the Tennessee river. Such a panoramic view will make outdoor living feel like Paradise.
This home is move-in ready! Check back with us for the final reveal!
