Classic Meets Contemporary: McCamy’s Newest Custom Home
Monday, May 31st, 2021
Modern farmhouse style may be fairly new to the design scene, but the contemporary and cozy aesthetic has made quite a splash. This article by Homes and Gardens magazine sums it up well: the modern farmhouse embodies a blend of traditional country and minimal contemporary. Casual and lived-in, without the clutter. Clean lines and sleek finishes, with the perfect amount of rustic coziness.
Our newest custom homeowner was intrigued by modern farmhouse design, and decided to go in a different direction than she was used to. “It’s a much more casual style of home than I’ve had previously, and I like that it’s not as fussy,” she reflected. She figured it was meant to be when a lot became available in the same neighborhood as her daughter and grandkids, and she began making plans to move to Tennessee.
She found her house plans online but wanted to make a few changes. “Grant was not put off by that. He was very willing to work with the plans and her adjustments.” She was most impressed by McCamy’s true custom process and endless design opportunities she would be offered. After interviewing a few builders, the homeowner clicked with Grant and Ashley and loved how they were so willing to work with her to bring her vision to life. “They didn’t say ‘it has to be x, y, or z.’ They were willing to be flexible in what I wanted.”
Compared to a previous experience with building a home, the homeowner appreciated the extensive communication between her and the McCamy team. She especially appreciated having Ashley, our interior designer, to help with making design choices.
After living in two more formal homes, she found it somewhat difficult to think in terms of more casual design. “Ashley was so helpful in that she allowed me to think outside of the rigid ideas that I had. She was also excellent at reining me in. She was very aware of the look that I wanted, and how I could achieve it without breaking the bank.”
The finished product has so many functional elements that are also beautiful. She loves how the powder room turned out. “It’s like the little hidden jewel that your guests get to see.” And she uses the pantry even more than she expected. It allows her to keep things out easily without making the kitchen appear messy. With the countertop and cabinet storage space, it’s more than just a closet. It’s a pretty space that also serves many purposes.
Additionally, she loves having a sewing room and an office space. Building a custom home with McCamy really allowed her to create the best home for her lifestyle. A room dedicated to her sewing and quilting was a priority in this home that she was able to make a reality. “Being retired, I have time to do those kinds of things, and it’s nice to be able to set up the sewing machine and not have to worry about taking it down or tidying up when guests come over.”
From the mudroom to the screened-in porch, she is still discovering how all the pretty spaces in her home serve her best, but she is very happy with how the home turned out. “Grant and Ashley made sure everything got done the way it was supposed to be. Under the circumstances of the pandemic, building was a challenge for everyone, but it was managed to the best of everyone’s ability. If I was going to build all over again, McCamy would get my call!”
