McCamy on the Boulevard

If you’ve been following along with our social media and previous newsletters, then you know that our Cherokee Boulevard renovation project has been a labor of love that has finally made it to the market. This home saw many changes along the way. The kitchen moved to the back of the house, a new laundry room and pantry were created from an unused sitting room, and the back of the house was completely demolished for a new screened-in porch to be added on.
A Vision to Begin
This home started with a vision from Shawn Fisher. He sketched up beautiful plans for the front and rear elevations, and our friends at FE Design helped bring his vision to life. These design plans for the expanded front porch space and backyard outdoor living were what transformed the exterior of this 1950s rancher, but the interior was another story.
Demo began and didn’t spare much. With the drywall removed and the existing back porch pulled off, our masons began building a two-story fireplace structure for the new covered porch. The interior revealed a blank canvas with lots of room to play, so the existing layout of the main spaces became more of a suggestion. The kitchen and the dining room swapped places, creating a more mainstream layout with the dining room attached to the entry and the kitchen at the back of the home. The old sitting room off the kitchen had an exterior entry, so it was the perfect space to turn into a mudroom, pantry and laundry room combo.
Sam McCamy always said, “It’s all about the backyard,” and with this house sitting a couple hundred yards from the Tennessee river, plenty of windows and an outdoor space were a must. A screened porch and outdoor fireplace provide the perfect spot to enjoy those Knoxville views. The porch addition became the greatest undertaking for this renovation project, but the result makes it all well worth it.
Front Facelift
The front of the home needed an upgrade as well. We made up for what this home was lacking in curb appeal with a new stone entryway. The front door was replaced to create a more grand appearance to the front of the home, and now it will stop you in your tracks on your walk down Cherokee Boulevard!
Front Door Facelift
In addition to the back porch, the primary suite was extended to create a bed and bath fit for royalty. The vaulted ceilings and massive rear-facing window give this room the feeling of vacation all year long. The bathroom is grand and built to perfection with its giant shower and soaking tub.
This home was a blank canvas that just needed the McCamy touch to make it the Sequoyah Hills masterpiece that it has become. Our team had such a fun time bringing this project together.
