To move or stay put and renovate? That’s the question a couple of Knoxville homeowners asked themselves as they pondered their next step. There are benefits to both, of course, but in the current housing market, the choice to remodel seems to be a popular alternative to throwing a hat in the competitive real estate ring. These homeowners wanted a more expansive outdoor living area and an indoor space better suited for entertaining. However, they loved the location of their current home. McCamy joined in to bring them the best of both worlds. After consulting with Daryl Johnson Architects for the project plans, McCamy was recommended as a general contractor to give the project life. The plans included an addition to the back of the house to expand the living and kitchen areas and a spacious deck addition on the exterior.

Our team helped them achieve their goalswithout displacing the couple from their home. “The McCamy folks were gifted at interpreting the intent of the design, organizing the work around us, and helping us manage the expense,” the homeowners reflected. The goal was to remove bottlenecks from the downstairs layout and give the interior and exterior an updated look to suit their style.

“We wanted the style to suggest the open living found in great beach houses.” They had a vision, and McCamy’s interior designer worked with them to make it a reality. “Ashley was a magician with color, finishes, and features. She also had a sixth sense about what would get us where we wanted to go backed up with a sample collection for every conceivable component,” the homeowner bragged. The end result has made it feel like a whole new home. “It removed the bottlenecks entirely. We can easily move around the kitchen while seeing the entire space downstairs. And we can experience living near the woods instead of just getting a peek through a virtual porthole.”
The homeowners especially love the indoor/outdoor feel of the space. Outdoor living areas were a huge trend in 2020 and add great resale value to the home. However, these homeowners think they will stay and enjoy it for themselves. “We’re very happy. We love our cathedral ceiling and the wall of windows. Our kitchen is brighter and more functional, and our new deck is practically a destination.”

Our team loved being a part of this project. It is always a joy to bring new life to a well-loved home. The homeowners agree that McCamy was an excellent choice for the job. “We were asking for a significant overhaul of most of the downstairs, including the removal of a bearing wall. The McCamy team brought expertise to the necessary engineering for such a major upgrade and ensured that each task was approached with true craftsmanship.”If you’re feeling inspired to take on a renovation or addition of your own, we would love to hear from you!
