How to Make the Most of Your Kitchen Space: McCamy Construction Completes Another Kitchen Renovation in Riverbend
Wednesday, April 26th, 2017
When you have a passion for cooking and your kitchen is small, doing what you love just isn’t as fun. We recently completed a kitchen renovation for two homeowners in Riverbend who understood this struggle all too well.
“We’ve been through a remodel before, so we know they are more difficult in some ways than building from the ground up. You have to be very careful. We briefly looked at other contractors, but we were familiar with the McCamy name and our next door neighbors had such a great experience and a quick turnaround, deciding on McCamy was easy. We made a good choice. The team was very professional, they worked hard, and delivered great quality work.” – Riverbend Homeowner
The original home builder placed the laundry room in the kitchen and although a washer and dryer on the main floor is convenient, the laundry room took up valuable space in what should have been all kitchen. Lack of kitchen cabinetry and countertop space is one of the main reasons homeowners contact us for a kitchen renovation. While
moving walls is always an option, we can do a lot to maximize kitchen space while keeping the same footprint. So, we went to work repositioning things.
We pulled the washer and dryer out and moved them upstairs into a closet that we converted to a laundry room. We moved the range over to the center of the wall and put the fridge, microwave, and another oven along this wall as well.
Lighting is often an afterthought for many kitchen renovation contractors, but at McCamy, we think lighting is incredibly underrated. In this Riverbend kitchen, we used recessed lighting to brighten up the space, under-cabinet lighting to highlight the marble subway tile backsplash and bring out the countertops’ marble qualities, and we hung pendant lights for a functional focal point.
For this kitchen, we built a pantry in what used to be dead space. This also made more room for the island. We replaced the old cabinetry with two-toned cabinets built with shaker-style doors, custom shelving, and updated hardware. The beautiful marble-looking quartz countertops were the icing on the cake.

Last but not least, we removed the white floor tile and put down hardwood to match the existing floors in other areas of the home. The homeowners were delighted:
“We didn’t have much cabinet space and the cabinets we had were starting to break down and were getting sawdust all over our pots and pans and silverware. We love the new layout and our kitchen is more functional because of how things were changed around. We have a lot more cabinet and countertop space now!” – Riverbend Homeowner
