How McCamy’s Team & Processes Built Trust With Westmoreland Homeowners
Thursday, April 30th, 2020
A house built in 1995 may not be considered an “old” home in the grand scheme of Knoxville’s history, but 25 years is certainly long enough to at least present some “middle age” problems when it comes to construction and appearance.
Such was the case with a Colonial brick home in the Westmoreland neighborhood that a young family moved into 5 years ago. The homeowners knew the home would need some renovations, but they wanted to live in it for awhile before deciding if the updates they wanted to make should be smaller-scale fixes or bigger-scale renovations.
“Tiles in the master bathroom had been falling off, and the back porch had some rotting wood,” the homeowner said. “The question was what we wanted to do about it. We could just fix these specific problems by replacing tile and wood, or we could go for it and fully remodel both the master bath and the porch. We decided to go for it and have what we really wanted.”
The Right People & Processes Make Renovations Easier
The overall size of the bathroom was plenty large enough for the homeowners, but a built-in jetted bathtub took up too much space. “Plus, the shower was really small because it was in a separate enclosed area with the toilet,” the homeowner said, adding, “We wanted a larger shower and a smaller tub, with a much more modern and updated look to the entire bathroom.”
The new design accounted for keeping the toilet enclosed because, as the homeowner said, “Who wants to see the toilet anyway?” An elegant stand-alone bathtub replaced the oversized jetted tub, creating more room for a larger glassed-in shower.
“We walk into the bathroom now and it’s just so much prettier and more modern, which is exactly what we wanted,” the homeowner says.
She adds that the process was much easier than they envisioned, thanks in large part to 3 of McCamy’s unique assets:
- Ashley Jones, McCamy’s Director of Design
- Ben, the lead Job Superintendent, and McCamy’s subcontractors
- An app that provides easy communication between the McCamy crew and homeowners
When it came to choosing the many design details for the bathroom, the homeowners knew the general style they liked but didn’t have the time to review a seemingly endless variety of finishes, colors, and choices. McCamy’s Director of Design, Ashely Jones, made that process much easier.
The homeowner said, “We both work and we have two small children, so we didn’t have a lot of time to be looking on Pinterest or going to home decor places to pick out this or that. But we trusted Ashley to be able to guide us based on what we told her we liked.
“And when we really didn’t have an opinion about something that needed to be picked out, we trusted her so much that we felt comfortable saying, ‘Do what you feel would be best.’ We were never disappointed.”
The contractors who McCamy hires also solidified their trust in McCamy’s quality of care. “Ben Davenport was our job Superintendent, and he is the sweetest hard worker,” the homeowner said. “Our kids love him and he became like part of the family. He was able to give us advice and we enjoyed getting to know him. In fact, we trusted all of McCamy’s subcontractors, and they were all easy to have in our home.”
The final benefit that made the homeowners know beyond a doubt that they’d chosen the right home construction company was the app that McCamy uses to facilitate communication between the builders and homeowners.
“McCamy uses a builder’s app which makes communication so effective and easy,” the homeowner said, explaining, “For example, they would provide us with updates on what to expect the next day. Or they could give us a head’s up about things like if a big shipment was expected to be dropped off in the driveway so that we knew ahead of time to park in street to be able get out easily.
“We’ve talked to other friends who are also having renovations done but are using other construction companies. They don’t have that app for communication, but they wish they did.”
Taking everything into account—from the expertise of McCamy’s crew to the communication processes to establishing trust in the quality of craftsmanship—the homeowners never had a doubt that McCamy was the right choice for their renovation updates.
