Growing Homes in Sequoyah Hills: McCamy Construction’s Latest Home Addition is Now Complete

When buying a home, most people expect to do some remodeling here and there after they first move in, like replacing the countertops in the kitchen, the tile in the bathroom, or sprucing up the place with different color paint. However, a recent NIHB report shows that the average home buyer of a single-family home will stay there for about 13 years before moving out. As you probably already know from experience, a lot can happen in 13 years, much more than new flooring or a new can of paint can fix. This was the dilemma for two homeowners we met in Sequoyah Hills. While they loved their home, its size was not conducive to long-term hosting and their growing kids needed more room as well. By repurposing their old garage space and adding onto their existing property, the homeowners hoped to give out-of-town guests a place to stay and their kids more room to play.Repurposing the Garage
Using blueprints and a rendering from their architect, we converted the existing garage into playroom, mudroom, and a hallway corridor with multiple closets that led to the guest suite. One of the most unique aspects of the playroom is the custom built-in bench that is functional as well as beautiful. Usable space is hard to come by and with a large family, it’s important to maximize square footage. We installed hinges into the bench seats so it could provide more storage space in addition to extra seating.Building the Guest Suite
Home additions are one of the most difficult projects in the building and design industry, because whatever you’re adding needs to complement the rest of the house. When you’re implementing a completely different structure with new materials on a home that’s more than a decade old, things can get tricky. However, we at McCamy love a challenge. While we always promise great quality work, this project was especially impressive in how well we were able to match the original design of the home in the new addition, even in the details. Let’s see what the homeowner had to say:“We had a good idea of what we wanted because we had worked with an architect before contacting McCamy. The challenge was to find a contractor that could realize our vision for expanding our home in a manner that perfectly complimented our existing house. For example, the beauty of our home lies in its proportionality, so great care had to be taken in constructing the new roof – its apex, slope, and where it connected to the existing structure. McCamy’s project superintendents Chris and Michael were outstanding. We were really fortunate to get to work with Chris, and to always have Michael available for consultation. Chris has an architectural background, which gave him unique knowledge as he helped us work through the roof challenges described above. We had design challenges in other areas as well that we overcame because of his background and ability to work with our architect. Chris went the extra mile and worked around the clock to make sure we were always satisfied with whatever issue came up. Additionally, Ashley, McCamy’s in-house interior designer was invaluable in helping us find a seamless interior design solution for our transition from our existing house into the new addition. Lastly, Grant’s commitment to our project from our very first meeting was exceptional, and his focus on helping us find ways to stay within our budget was much appreciated. In the end, McCamy’s finished product exceeded our expectations.”Keep scrolling to see the guest suite from start to finish! Do you have a home addition challenge? We can help.
