Anatomy of a Custom Home
Friday, March 29th, 2024
At McCamy Construction, we pride ourselves on creating spaces that give our clients the luxurious feeling of a one-of-a-kind home. From building plan adjustments to picking the perfect unique wallpaper, our custom home clients are sure to know that their home is completely tailored to them.
Over the last year, our team has worked on custom homes of all scopes, from Knoxville to Rarity Bay. We’ve seen each of our clients dream up their idea of home, and we’ve done our best to exceed their wildest expectations. Today, we’re sharing some of the special luxuries that our clients get to enjoy in their brand new McCamy custom homes. From subtle trim details to basement bars and movie rooms, we’re finally giving you the dream-home inspiration you really need.
Small but Mighty
With Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok spreading home inspiration by the second, it’s easy to want to pack your new home full of fleeting trends. That’s why McCamy interior designer, Ashley Jones, is here to steer our clients toward timeless, classic design that still reflects our clients’ personalities.
One way to incorporate bold elements into a home is through the powder room. This idea is nothing new, but a few of our recent powder rooms have left us with a new love for this small-but-mighty space. The combination of wallpaper with board and batten is a crowd favorite, whether our clients want a pop of color, a bold pattern, or both. Last week, we completed a home in Tennessee National with textured grasscloth wallpaper in a beautiful moody shade, and another home features a statement wall of floor-to-ceiling marble tile.
Hidden in Plain Sight
While these bold choices pack a punch, a more subtle custom detail is on the rise. The inner child in each of us loves a hidden door, so why not have a sophisticated version in your very own grown-up playhouse? For our Contemporary in the Country clients, a traditional door in the entryway would have disrupted their paneled wall treatment that creates a beautiful statement upon entry into their home. Our team designed a way for the office door to disappear into the trim, giving our clients a fun secret to share with their visitors.
Our Keller Bend custom home is full of refined design choices that create a lovely, elegant home, so you may be surprised when the kitchen cabinets open to reveal a hidden walk-in pantry. Custom cabinetry made a way for this design to integrate seamlessly into our clients’ kitchen without robbing them of the walk-in pantry they needed.
French Revelation
Instead of hiding their pantry door, these Tennessee National clients decided to make theirs stand out. With a love of classic, European design, our homeowners opted for reclaimed double doors from 1800s France. These one-of-a-kind doors make way into a butler’s pantry that offers enough space and functionality to be considered a prep kitchen.
This design element is one that many of our culinary-loving clients wish to include in their house plans. A large pantry with cabinet storage, countertops and plenty of shelving can serve as a functional way to keep clutter out of your beautiful new kitchen. Entertain without worry of constant tidying, or simply shut that pantry door when you need a reprieve. Out of sight, out of mind, right?
Entertaining Goals
For our other master entertainers, one kitchen simply won’t do! A luxury of building a custom home is creating a space that honors your lifestyle. Whether you’re a wine-lover, an amateur bartender or a proud grandparent with little ones visiting, you should have a home that fits your needs, and we love to create that for our clients!
Some of our recent Rarity Bay clients wanted a cool hangout in their basement bonus room, so they decided to install a bar, complete with an undercounter beer keg. Another client decided the basement would be too far, so a wet bar in the great room built-ins it was! Our clients with grandchildren found that the key to plenty of visits is a basement kitchenette stocked with their favorite treats. And our wine connoisseurs included a basement wine cellar for their collection of vino from around the world.
All About the Backyard
Of course, we can’t talk about luxurious custom homes without admiring the outdoor spaces that make our homes special. We believe it’s all about the backyard here! From outdoor fireplaces and screened-in porches to poolside patios, we love to create the backyard of our clients’ dreams.

Whatever your dream home entails, the McCamy team can make it happen! At-home movie theater? A bathtub in your shower? A laundry room that connects to your closet?
