Dos & Don’ts of Building in 2022

What a world we are living in as home builders in 2022! Our customers, subcontractors, and vendors know the many challenges to be faced in the current building market. Flexibility and patience have always been requirements in this field, but that is even more prevalent in a Covid world. Today, we’re sharing our dos and don’ts for your next building project.
1. DO pre-plan your project. Making selections early is imperative to getting materials ordered in a timely manner. Pre-ordering materials to have at-the-ready when install rolls around will help the project move along smoothly.
2. DON’T expect immediate availability. Lead times for most materials have extended weeks beyond usual. This is why pre-planning and ordering early are of the utmost importance.
3. DO expect the unexpected. Be prepared for delays even beyond what was originally anticipated. With high volume projects, many subcontractors are navigating the workplace with fewer available employees than usual.
4. DON’T be surprised if you have to make new selections along the way. Many large companies are discontinuing portions of their product line to focus on 3-4 main subcategories for faster manufacturing times. Be aware of fewer options and potential changes in inventory.
5. DO have flexibility with your budget. Unfortunately, higher volume in the market means price increases for many materials and subcontractor work. It’s important to be mindful of this going in and make selections accordingly.
6. Finally, DON’T forget we are always on your side! You and your builder have the exact same goal: create a finished product to be proud of in a timely and efficient manner. We are going to bat for you behind the scenes and doing our best to facilitate and advance the process as seamlessly as possible.
