Since our beginning, our experienced staff has paid attention to the aspects of the construction process that typically cause the most stress and tailored the way we build and design new custom homes to make the experience as pleasant as possible for you and your family. At McCamy, we are a different kind of construction company. Continue reading to see the difference for yourself as we share our custom home building and design process with you.
1. Determine Your Requirements
This first step happens at kick-off and is the most important step in the process. Most custom homes are design-build projects, so in order to come up with an action plan unique to your needs, we’ll walk through your site and determine your new home’s functional requirements and style preferences while considering your budget. You’ll then meet with our designer and architect to discuss your basic needs and your wish list. Afterward, we’ll draft a concept drawing with a preliminary budget to start planning the build.
Already have a design and working drawings for your dream home? Great! We’ll examine them closely, talk to your architects, designers, and engineers and move ahead to step four in the process where we present you with a firm estimate.
2. Develop the Concept
Here, we execute drawings to give you a vision of your new custom home. We’ll make adjustments in response to your input until we arrive at a final concept drawing and adjust the preliminary budget to reflect any changes that were made.
3. Finalize Working Drawings
Working drawings are precise architectural renditions that include dimensions and material specifications necessary for building the new home you envisioned. Working drawings allow us to create a more precise estimate and apply for building permits, which we gladly handle for you. When we build new custom homes, we typically work with our architect associates or the architect of your choice.
4. Create the Estimate
We take the information from the working drawings and combine it with our knowledge of materials pricing and labor requirements to arrive at a solid estimate. We’ll review the estimate with you, make additional adjustments as necessary, and proceed to the next step: going to contract.
5. Agree on the Contract
When we go to contract, you and representatives of McCamy Construction will sign a building contract, which specifies when construction will start, the payment schedule, the estimated construction cost, and a complete set of drawings and specifications. We spell out everything that will happen to eliminate surprises and get you on your way to enjoying your beautiful dream home. After the contract is signed, we set an appointment for you to choose your finish materials, which is the next step in the process.
6. Choose and Order Finish Materials
On the day of your appointment, we’ll greet you with with a friendly smile and fresh cup of coffee and escort you to our design center where our design consultants will present your options for finish materials such as flooring, cabinetry, and paint. If you’re interested in another finish material not present at our office, we’ll be more than happy to arrange an appointment to visit a retail establishment that carries exactly what you’re wanting.
7. Supervise Construction
For every custom home build, we assign a construction supervisor who will oversee every aspect of your project. Our supervisors are equipped with detailed specification documents and utilize online software to track progress, budgets and communicate with customers. This software serves as a way to centrally locate everything we need to do to complete your new home and helps us ensure a quality outcome.

8. Final Walk Through, Closing, and 30-day Checkup
Now that construction is complete, we’ll walk you through your new home to ensure everything was finished according to plan before you move in. We’ll provide you with our McCamyCare home warranty plan and schedule a checkup 30 days after closing to see how you’re enjoying your new home.
This last step is actually three steps rolled into one. We make sure to share our project control charts with you during construction and maintain open communication with you as we build your new home, because perfection the first time around is our goal. After we finish building, we’ll walk you through your new home to ensure everything was completed according to plan before you move in. We’ll provide you with a one-year home warranty and schedule a checkup 30 days after closing to see how you’re enjoying your new home.
When building and designing new custom homes for our clients, we have found that the process is what makes the end result perfect. Clear communication from concept to contract to closing is the key to a stress-free experience.
