When it comes to
commercial construction, different businesses have different requirement. In our experience working fitness concepts like
barre3 and
Koko Fit Club we’ve found that their are unique needs for these facilities. If you run a gym, you’re going to need a lot of floor space to accommodate gym equipment. You’re also going to need to make sure that your electrical and HVAC systems are equipped to handle so much heavy duty equipment.
Here are
five things to keep in mind for the construction of gyms and fitness centers:
A Good Electrical System: Treadmills, elliptical trainers, stationary bikes etc. all run on electricity nowadays. It is possible to get manual ones which don’t, but these are hopelessly outdated. To give your customers the best possible equipment, you’ll need to make sure your space can handle the usage of so much electricity.
HVAC, Floors and Mirrors: You’ll also need to have a great HVAC system in place to take care of the heat generated by the equipment as well as the people using it. You’ll need floors that don’t scratch if weights are dropped on them. And you’ll need at least one wall of floor-to-ceiling mirrors so that people can check their form when exercising.
Letting in Natural Light: If you want to really make your gym a pleasant environment for gym-goers, you’ll also need to make sure you have a lot of light. Often, people using cardio machines like to look out on to the street. This gives them something to focus on besides just running or bicycling.
Installing TV Screens: You can also install TV screens along the wall and connect each of them with the cardio machines. Or better still, get a mini screen attached to each machine so that each member can choose what they want to watch.
Dance and Yoga Studios: Sometimes, high end gyms also offer dance or yoga classes for which you’ll need a separate studio with wooden floors. Dancers and yoga practitioners can hurt themselves practicing on hard surfaces, so it’s very important to make sure that the floors have a certain amount of resilience or spring.
There are many things you need to take into account if you’re thinking about setting up a gym. Whatever your personal vision, you can be sure that McCamy Construction can help you turn it into a reality.
