3 Tips for Commercial Construction in the Fashion and Beauty Industry
Tuesday, February 4th, 2014
If there’s one place where it’s important to be unique and make a fashion statement, it’s in the fashion and beauty industry. If you run a store that sells clothes or hairstyling and beauty products, you’re not just selling products or services. You’re also selling an image that will appeal to people in an aesthetic way. We’ve worked on a number of these projects for BeStyled, Diana Warner and Salon Visage and along the way have learned how to do it right! So keep the following tips in mind when it comes to fashion and beauty-related commercial construction.
1. Light it up: It’s going to be necessary for people to be able to see the products they’re going to buy. So you need to make sure there’s adequate lighting. At the same time, the lighting shouldn’t hurt the eyes. You’re trying to create the kind of space where people will feel comfortable browsing for as long as they want. If they need to try on clothes, you’ll need to have spacious fitting rooms. Nothing turns a customer off like having to change in a crowded area where they can’t see what they’ve tried on. So diffuse lighting which doesn’t hurt the eyes but which is present everywhere is a good idea.
2. Don’t crowd your space. Having to squeeze through small aisles where the clothes keep falling off the racks is really annoying. So try to make the best use of the space that you have. If you have high ceilings, you can put some products on higher shelves but make them easy to reach with sliding ladders or helpful salespeople. On the floor itself, you should restrict your display to the items you know are going to be your showstoppers and to new arrivals.
3. Mix it up. It’s nice to put some jewelry next to clothes or hair products next to hats. This will help people to mix and match things and it’s much more aesthetically pleasing than just having all the clothes on one side of the store and the jewelry or accessories on the other side. So make sure that your commercial contractor puts in a mixture of tables, shelves, shoe racks and clothes racks in your store. These are just a few things you can consider if you run a store selling fashion and beauty products.
